Wasting water on your lawn and you don’t even know it

There is a major misperception on watering your lawn. As grass has very shallow root structure all excess water just run in to the ground and have no purpose to get the grass growing, thus you are only wasting valuable water. Grass needs about 5 – 7mm of rain (water) per day to have obtained a nice lush green look. To make sure you get the right sprinkler to do the right job, we basically offer 2 types of pop-up sprinkler as options for you to look at.

The PGP Ultra takes the foundation of the best-selling PGP Rotor and raises the bar with a variety of new features developed over three decades of research, customer feedback, and lab testing. Among the most notable improvements of the PGP Ultra is its non-strippable drive and automatic arc return. These two features work to allow the turret to be turned without causing damage, and return the turret to its original arc regardless of where it is turned. Other advanced features include 34 nozzle options with several radius choices, and a headed slot and set screw. The diversity of the PGP Ultra offers system installers an array of efficient options on any site.

This Pop-up Sprinkler is extremely versatile, there are numerous options of flow rates and coverage areas. The PGP Ultra can wet a radius between 4.9m and 14m with a flow rate of 70l/h to a maximum of 3230 l/h. For this reason, it is rather easy to select the wrong nozzle and application for this sprinkler.

This Pop Up is easily mistaken for its ability to wet your grass. This sprinkler provides a steady stream of water, running at approximately 800 litres per hour. This is huge amounts of water if you take in consideration you have 3 – 4 pop ups in one line that can easily use 3200 litres per hour. Let’s say you have 4 stations you can use 12800 litres per day. In this example you are watering your grass at a rate of 36mm (of rainfall) a day, and you only need 7mm to have a good-looking turf.  Let me put this into perspective on how much water you are wasting per year. You waste 660 litres per hour on a pop-up and, 10560 litres per day in one irrigationing cycle. Convert this estimation to money value for a 6-month irrigation period, you can expect the following number. R70 per day, R2130 per month and easily up to R 12770.00 per year. Wasted on unnecessary water! Money may not be your main issue, but water scarcity is a real and a worrisome issue you should give attention to and curate in a proper plan! In this scenario water wasted per year roughly calculates to 1.9million litres per year, “gone down the drain” so to speak. To think about it, you’ve just wasted 9500 bathtubsfull of water, which neither you or the earth can afford to lose.
